Are you a Doctor who Hunts?
Are you a Doctor who Hunts?
Calling all doctors who like to hunt. High Peak is very proud to have been chosen to partner Wild Med Adventures LLC as the property that will host their first ever CME-accredited New Zealand Hunting and Wilderness Medicine course.
Between June 1 and 8, up to eight doctors will be hosted in the High Peak Lodge on an all-inclusive hunting trip that allows each doctor the opportunity to hunt a red stag at special rates. In addition, each evening will consist of a series of lectures covering topics such as anaphalyxis, hypothermia, hunting injuries and field rescue.
The trip will be hosted jointly between High Peak (who will provide lodging, land, animals, facilities, logistics and professional guides) and Wild Med Adventures, headed by Dr Ben Mattingly, who will be the principal instructor on the CME-accredited Wilderness Medicine lectures and workshops.
Who is Involved?
Alongside Dr Mattingly, James Cagney will be lead the course from a High Peak perspective. James is the lead instructor and indeed the primary author of the New Zealand Professional Hunting Guides Association (NZPHGA)‘s Professional Hunter Academy (PHA), New Zealand’s primary industry-endorsed hunting guide qualification.
James’ extensive guiding experience, former Royal New Zealand Airforce military background, passion for hunting and easy going, genial nature make him the ideal leader to add New Zealand specific skills and considerations to the CME program offered by Dr Mattingly.
What is Wild Med Adventures?
Wild Med Adventures was founded while Dr Ben Mattingly was travelling home with a group of friends after a successful summit of Aconcagua, the highest peak in the Americas at 22,841ft. In the founder’s own words:
Many of the ideas for the beginning of Wild Med Adventures, LLC began over a cup of coffee sitting at the airport with my new found friends. During our summit attempt, I met many physicians, physician assistants, EMT’s, and guides that were all like-minded and very experienced. Since climbing Aconcagua in 2012, the initial idea to create a CME company has sparked to life. Chris Gibson, EMT/Paramedic has become a great friend and we have many ideas for future trips. His experience in austere environments is incredible. We wanted to create an atmosphere that offers hands-on and personal teaching designed to give the student a real life learning experience in extreme environments while forging friendships that last a lifetime. . Creating Wild Med Adventures, LLC has allowed us to offer continuing medical education throughout the world and share our passion for education and the outdoors. We have joined with Chris’s SOS company to offer a wide variety conferences.
