FAQs

Here are some of the questions we are often asked by prospective clients.

How is High Peak able to offer the strongest guarantee in New Zealand?

Because we are family owned and operated, own all our own land and animals, manage all operations on the property and limit the number of guests we host at a time, we control all the variables affecting your hunt – except the weather of course. This enables us to back our own product 100% and promise our clients the most rewarding adventure experience of their lives – or it’s on us.

What are High Peak’s credentials as a provider of quality hunting experiences?

High Peak is the founding member of the New Zealand Association of Game Estates (NZAGE), New Zealand’s only recognised standard for hunting properties. We are members of the Safari Club International (SCI) NZ chapter and all our guides are members of the New Zealand Professional Hunting Guides Association (NZPHGA). We are one of the longest established New Zealand trophy hunting properties still operating, having been in the business since the mid-1980s.

How does the quality of your hunting environment compare?

Our 4500-acre game estate is one of the largest and most natural enclosures in the country and is ranked among the very best by respected industry veterans. It is the jewel in the High Peak crown and along with our private free-range areas, we think it creates a superb fair-chase hunting environment for our world-class trophy herd.

How is High Peak able to offer such a wide trophy selection for a given price?

At High Peak we manage our own red deer trophy herd, as opposed to paying for animals by score at the start of each season. This ability allows us to set any price we wish for our stags. In turn, we allow the hunter to choose their trophy based on any number of characteristics including shape, width, mass, number of points and behaviour – without constraining them by score – making each trophy a truly individual choice.

How many people hunt on High Peak at any given time?

One of our most significant points of difference is that High Peak operates a one-party-at-a-time policy where we can, with a maximum of two parties if appropriate. High Peak reserves the right to offer exclusivity to any party for whom we deem it necessary.  This means you and your party get 100% of the land, animals, facilities and staff on offer and no third parties affecting the outcome of your experience.

Who owns High Peak?

High Peak has been 100% owned and operated by the Guild family since 1973 (unlike some who are bankrolled by an overseas backer). High Peak is also freehold (unlike some who lease their land or are simply outfitters on land owned by others). This means you’ll be a guest of the owners and will have a genuine New Zealand experience.

How many hunters do you host each year?

High Peak aims for quality over quantity – which means a modest number of parties each season, often on a one-party-at-a-time basis, limited by availability. Because of this, space in our calendar can be scarce and we encourage advance enquiries to avoid disappointment.

What type of hunters choose High Peak?

Those who choose to hunt with High Peak are usually those who seek a great trophy – but not at the expense of a first-class hunting experience, individualised service and a great collection of stories to tell their friends.

Where do your clients come from?

High Peak hosts clients from all over the world with the majority coming from North America, Europe, Scandinavia, the Middle East and the Far East.

What will my High Peak hunt cost?

Prices are available on request. High Peak is no bargain basement hunt destination, however, our prices are all-inclusive, meaning no surprises. We represent excellent value to the right client – the hunter who knows the bitter taste of a bad experience lasts much longer than the quick thrill of a cheap deal.

Can I bring my wife, family or friends?

High Peak is designed for couples, families and groups. Because you’ll most likely have the dedicated resources of the High Peak team to look after you and your party alone, there is ample space for multiple hunters and many great adventure and activity options for non-hunters and companions. Think of us as your own private 10,000 acre high-country resort.

What gear and equipment will I need to bring?

If you have your own rifle and gear, you are most welcome to bring it. If you’d rather use ours, we have a full range of firearms and equipment for you to use free of charge. If you need hunting clothing, we can supply some from our inventory or alternatively provide you with a full list upon enquiry.

What is New Zealand like?

If you like friendly people, a pleasant climate, clean air, stunning scenery, top quality food, an affordable currency, a safe travelling environment and activities and experiences that will leave you with great memories and even better stories, then you’ll like New Zealand.

Finally, why should I choose to hunt with High Peak?

Put simply, if you cannot afford to waste your time on anything less than a first-class experience, your choices are limited. You will not run this risk with us – and that’s backed by the strongest guarantee in the industry.
